Malorie Sarnecki and Ava Knap lead all runners in 1.5 mile course

Juniors Malorie Sarnecki and Ava Knap were the top runners on Tuesday (Sept. 8) in a three-school meet on the Spartans’ home course.

Sarnecki was timed in 9 minutes and 47 seconds for the 1.5-mile layout. Knap, the meet runner-up, was a step behind at 9:48.

Overall, seven SJ-O underclassmen finished among the top 10 in a field of 33 participants.

Other Spartan leaders were: Helene Jones (fourth in 10:00), Taryn Sexton (fifth in 10:03), Ashlyn Lannert (sixth in 10:04), Addie Allen (ninth in 10:33) and Kaytlyn Baker (10th in 10:43).

The Spartans captured team honors with 18 points. Runner-up Tuscola had a score of 57 and was followed by Oakwood (61).

SJ-O returns to action on Tuesday (Sept. 15) at Monticello.
