Top-seeded Oakwood was taken down in overtime by Westville, 49-45, in its first game of the Vermilion County Tournament on Tuesday (Jan. 18) at Danville’s Palmer Arena.
The teams were tied, 43-43, after regulation. Every point scored in OT came from the free throw line.
Westville was 6-for-9 from the line in the extra session and 15-for-20 for the night. Oakwood was 2-2 on OT free throws and 10-for-12 overall.
Josh Young led the Comets with 16 points. Griffin Trees scored seven points. Dalton Hobick and Grant Powell both finished with six points.
Oakwood (16-5) returns to action on Thursday (Jan. 20) against fourth-seeded Georgetown-Ridge Farm.
