Mustangs finish conference schedule unbeaten

By Fred Kroner

Prairieview Ogden finished off an unbeaten conference schedule on Thursday (Sept. 8) with a come-from-behind 4-2 baseball win at Bismarck-Henning.

PVO ended with a 13-0 record in Three Rivers Conference action for its first undisputed conference crown in baseball. The Mustangs shared the league title with Hoopeston in 2021.

The Mustangs scored the tying run against B-H in the sixth inning and added their final two runs in the seventh.

Lane McKinney pitched 6 1/3 innings to earn the victory. He allowed three hits, two walks and eight strikeouts. Jonathon Couture recorded the final two outs, striking out both batters that he faced.

McKinney belted two of PVO’s hits. Dalton York tallied two runs. York, Jameson Ehler and Kaden Wedig had the team’s other hits.

On Friday (Sept. 9), PVO had a 14-game winning streak snapped with a 7-2 loss at home to Champaign St. Matthew in the team’s regular-season finale.

Kaden Wedig, Logan Wedig, Wyatt McKinney and Aiden Hundley socked the Mustangs’ hits. The Wedigs each scored one run.

Hundley and Lucas Waters knocked in runs.

Couture suffered the loss. He struck out six and walked three in five innings. Kaden Wedig worked the last two scoreless innings, yielding three hits and no walks while fanning two.

Top-seeded PVO (14-3) returns to action with a first-round IESA Class 1A regional game at Gifford on Saturday (Sept. 17) against either Fisher or Rossville-Alvin.
