Comets win big over Georgetown-Ridge Farm
By Fred Kroner
For the third time in the past eight games – covering all of the games played in 2023 – the Oakwood Comets boys’ basketball team matched its highest scoring output of the season on Tuesday (Jan. 24), running past visiting Georgetown-Ridge Farm, 77-44.
Incredibly, the game was the team’s 24th of the season, but just the second one at Oakwood. In both of those home games, the Comets dropped in 77 points in victories.
Dalton Hobick and Tanner Pichon were the offensive catalysts against the Buffaloes, each one firing in 20 points. Alec Harrison scored 16 points. Jackson Dudley made nine points. Josh Ruch had six points and Brody Taflinger added four points.
Hobick produced four of the team’s eight three-pointers. Dudley nailed three three-point shot and Taflinger notched one.
Harrison and Hobick each tallied eight first-period points as Oakwood shot into a 20-10 lead. G-RF was within a 38-31 margin at halftime, but Pichon took over in the third stanza.
He totaled 10 points as the Comets carried a 60-36 lead into the final eight minutes.
For the season, Hobick (48) and Dudley (24) are the team’s top producers from three-point range.
Oakwood (17-7) returns to action on Friday (Jan. 27) at home against Cissna Park.
