Oakwood wrestlers dominate Vermilion County Conference selections

The 15-athlete all-Vermilion County wrestling team was dominated by Oakwood’s County and Conference championship team.

The Comets landed nine grapplers on the first team: junior Brayden Edwards (113 pounds), sophomore Tyler Huchel (120 pounds), junior Pedro Rangel (132 pounds), sophomore Jack Ajster (138 pounds), junior Carter Chambliss (144 pounds), senior Grant Brewer (150 pounds), senior Bryson Capansky (157 pounds), freshman Jamison Chambliss (190 pounds) and junior Kade Fleming (285 pounds).

Jamison Chambliss was the only freshman recognized by the County and Conference coaches on the first team.

A 15-member special mention unit featured four of the Oakwood/Salt Fork wrestlers: freshman Steven Uden (!06 pounds), junior Thomas Wells (126 pounds), freshman Kyler Johnson (165 pounds) and senior Dalton Brown (175 pounds).

Oakwood/Salt Fork was 28-3 in dual meets.

Squad members in the 40-win club for the season were: Rangel, Brewer, Brown and Capansky.

Teammates in the 30-win club this year included Uden, Edwards, Wells, Ajster and Carter Chambliss.

Huchel ended the season with a 29-8 overall record and Jamison Chambliss’ record was 24-8. Kade Fleming’s final mark was 24-17.
