Harrison’s Strong Pitching Helps Oakwood Snap Four-Game Losing Streak with 5-4 Win Over Salt Fork

Alec Harrison pitched Oakwood to a 5-4 victory over Salt Fork on Friday (April 19), snapping the Comets’ four-game losing streak.

In the Vermilion Valley Conference game at Fithian, Harrison yielded five hits and three walks. He struck out 11 batters.

Carsen Dudley, Derek Drews, Chase Harrison, Brody Taflinger  and Cort Vermillion accounted for the Oakwood hits.

Drews, Dudley, Chase Harrison, Taflinger and Alex Wallace scored the team’s runs. Driving in runs were Dudley, Chase Harrison, Taflinger, Vermillion and Wallace.

On Thursday (April 18), the Comets were limited to two hits and lost an 8-0 decision at Seeger, Ind.

The Oakwood hits were singles by Taflinger and Wallace.

Dustin Hughes pitched a complete game and suffered the loss despite allowing only one earned run. Hughes issued one walk and fanned one hitter.

On Saturday (April 20), Oakwood dropped a doubleheader at home against Braidwood Reed Custer, 7-6 and 20-4.

Comets with hits in both games were Drews, Chase Harrison, Bryson Marcinko and Taflinger.

Chase Harrison was 4-for-6 for the twin bill. Jackson Dudley scored three runs and drove in three runs for the day. Chase Harrison had two RBI.

Carsen Dudley was the second-game loser. He pitched one inning and allowed eight runs, but none were earned.

In the first game, Wallace struck out four batters in four innings and took the loss.

The Comets committed 10 errors in the nightcap.

Oakwood (8-13) returns to action on Monday (April 22) at Danville Schlarman Academy.
