St. Joseph-Ogden’s baseball team brought its offense, defense and pitching on Wednesday (April 10) and secured a 16-0 Illini Prairie Conference win at Rantoul.

The Spartans pounded five of their nine hits for extra bases and played errorless defense behind Asher Pruemer, who pitched his second shutout and the team’s sixth shutout of the season.

Pruemer permitted two hits, but faced just one batter over the minimum in the four-inning game. Catcher Luke Landrus threw out one would-be basestealer.

Pruemer (2-1) struck out five hitters.

Braxton Waller was one of the offensive catalysts. He was 2-for-2 – including a home run – and drove in five runs. Waller also stole three bases.

Tanner Jacob was 3-for-3 with four RBI. He socked two doubles and stole a base.

Overall, SJ-O base runners were successful on 10 stolen base attempts.

Landrus’ one hit was a triple and he knocked in two runs.

Jared Altenbaumer, Nolan Earley and Logan Rosenthal all socked one hit. Altenbaumer swiped two bases. Earley and Rosenthal had one stolen base apiece.

Kodey McKinney stole two bases and scored three runs. Also scoring three runs was Garrett Denhart. Will Haley scored one run.

Altenbaumer, Jacob and Waller all crossed home plate twice.

SJ-O (15-2) is 3-0 in IPC action. The Spartans return to action on Thursday (April 11) at home against Paxton-Buckley-Loda.
