Oakwood’s 400-Meter Relay Team Sets School Record at Spartan Classic

Oakwood’s 400-meter relay, consisting of Bryson McDaniel, Connor Moss, Jacob Pricer and Connor Smith, was seventh in 44.29 seconds on Friday (April 26) in the 24-school Spartan Classic boys’ track and field meet in St Joseph.

The foursome set a school record, breaking a mark that had stood for nearly three decades.

Three Oakwood athletes finished among the top eight in individual events.

Smith ran fifth in the 100 meters (11.41 seconds). McDaniel was sixth in the triple jump (38 feet, 9 inches). He was also eighth in the long jump (19 feet, 2 inches).

One other Comet relay wound up among the top eight.

The 3,200-meter relay ended fourth in 8:27.65. The featured runners were Jakob Rupp, Lucas Tyas, Macen Phillips and Thomas Wells.

Information was only available for 15 of the 18 events. No information was provided on the 200 meters, the 1,600 meters and the 1,600-meter relay.

Oakwood athletes who recorded new personal-bests were Trevor McCall (12th in the 110-meter hurdles in 17.58 seconds), Saul Carrillo (14th in the high jump at 5 feet, 5 inches), Kyler Johnson (15th in the 110-meter hurdles in 18.16 seconds), Cale Thomas (22nd in the freshmen-sophomore 100 meters in 12.33 seconds), Connor Moss (24th in the 100 meters in 12.00 seconds) and Kade Fleming (32nd in the shot put at 33 feet, 4 inches).

Oakwood will return to action on Monday (April 29) in the rescheduled Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Invitational.
