By Fred Kroner

Senior Alyssa Acton and freshmen Timera Blackburn-Kelley and Amelia Huckstadt teamed up to shut out Clinton 24-0 in a high school softball game on Thursday (March 23) in Rantoul.

Acton worked the first two innings. Blackburn-Kelley and Huckstadt each threw one inning. All three pitchers yielded one hit. Collectively, they issued  one walk and fanned four batters. They were backed by an errorless defense.

Addy Martinie was the offensive stalwart for the Spartans, going 4-for-4 with four extra-base hits. Besides slugging a grand slam and a solo home run, Martinie also delivered a double and a triple. She had nine RBI.

Martinie, who is 7-for-7 in her last two games, produced two-hit innings in both the first and second innings. SJ-O tallied 12 runs in the first inning and added 11 more in the second frame.

Acton also belted a home run.

Martinie scored four runs as did Peyton Jones, who knocked three hits. Halle Brazelton tallied three runs. Shayne Immke and Grace Osterbur both swatted two hits. Immke, Jones and Osterbur all drove in two runs.

SJ-O (3-2) returns to action at home on Monday (March 27) against Chillicothe IVC.
